Target Audience
Specialties - Otolaryngology, Rhinology

Overview

The 3-day, intensive SOAR course will reinforce standard treatments and introduce attendees to leading-edge technologies, surgical techniques, and biomaterials.  SOAR is designed for practicing otolaryngologists who focus on caring for patients with ear and sinus disorders.  This course will deepen their knowledge and improve their technical abilities in paranasal sinus and otological surgery. Lengthy sessions in the anatomical laboratory will be supplemented by brief topical presentations related to the current dissections. Self-paced learning is emphasized.

The goal of the SOAR course is to optimize the time each participant is taking away from their practice by building confidence to address more complicated pathology in the paranasal sinus and temporal bone.

Four different tracks are offered to allow attendees to tailor their experience to their clinical needs. Attendees participating in the laboratory dissection will have their own specimen and dissection station with image guidance.

Objectives

By attending this course, the participant will provide better patient care through an increased ability to:

  1. Identify key surgical anatomic landmarks for maxillary, ethmoid and sphenoid sinus surgery
  2. Recognize the appropriate indications for ballon sinuplasty
  3. Examine approaches to frontal and sphenoid sinus surgery
  4. Recognize the indications for canthotomy/cantholysis
  5. Recognize normal eustachian tube physiology
  6. Define the indications for endoscopic assisted vs. total endoscopic ear surgery
  7. Implement a step-wise approach to middle ear reconstruction
